Year 6 Celebrations

AUTUMN TERM

World War 2 Day

On the 10th October, year 6 had a very exciting visitor come and spend the day with them! We all went back in time to the 1940s! In role, as evacuees during WW2, we experienced what it would have been like to go to school. We wrote using ink and blotting paper, learnt how much different coins were worth and some badly behaved children even experienced what it would have been like to be caned across the hands!

Once school had finished for the morning, we were able to go shopping with our ration books and old fashioned coins. We were shocked at how little we were allowed of our favourite foods but did enjoy visiting the cafe for jam sandwiches and cake.

It was a great experience and really reinforced our knowledge of everyday life during WW2.

Forest School

Since the start of the year, year 6 have been fortunate enough to have a number of Forest School sessions, experiencing our Forest School site in different seasons and weather conditions. We have enjoyed observing the changes in the environment and how this has impacted the plants and animals that live there.

We have been learning how to strike our own fires, build sturdy, weather-proof shelters and have even begun to dig our own pond! We are looking forward to many more sessions and learning new skills using a variety of tools and equipment.

SPRING TERM

During the Spring Term year 6 have the exciting opportunity to visit the wizarding world of Harry Potter at the Warner Brothers’ Studio in London. This is a great way to introduce our topic walking in the foot steps of our favourite characters.

We visited Diagon Alley, the Forbidden Forest, Gringotts Bank and had the chance to step aboard the Hogwarts Express and pull a mandrake from Professor Sprout’s greenhouse.

We are looking forward to producing some great work inspired by J K Rowling’s magical stories.
